Have you noticed vapes with “hookah” or “shisha” in their names when shopping for disposable vapes? What you’re seeing is one of the top trends that’s defined disposable vaping in 2026. Disposable hookahs represent a completely new class in the world of disposable vapes, and they’re totally different from the “hookah pens” that were briefly popular about a decade ago. The latest e-hookahs are meant to fully recreate the hookah smoking experience in disposable form, and you wouldn’t believe what some brands have done to accomplish that goal.
What are e-hookahs all about, and how do disposable hookahs vs. disposable vapes compare? In this guide, I’ll tell you what you need to know.
Designed for Direct-to-Lung Inhaling

The first thing that makes a disposable hookah different from a standard disposable vape is that it’ll often be designed specifically for direct-to-lung inhaling – so the way that you use it will be different. That’s to mimic the DTL inhaling style that people often use when smoking hookahs. To provide that experience, an e-hookah will typically have a wider airflow opening than a disposable vape. If you prefer mouth-to-lung inhaling, that shouldn’t be a problem because the airflow is usually adjustable.
Most disposable vapes are designed to recreate the tight airflow of cigarettes and typically have nicotine strengths in the 50 mg/ml range. For most people, that strength is much too high for DTL inhaling. To ensure that the experience won’t be too intense and unpleasant, a disposable hookah will often have a much lower strength of around 5-6 mg/ml. That’s not a guaranteed rule, though, so you should always check the strength before buying. Don’t assume that a vape will have a low nicotine strength just because it has “hookah” or “shisha” in the name.
Shisha-Inspired Flavor Choices
Although every brand does its own thing, it’s very common for disposable hookahs to have flavor options specifically intended to taste like shisha flavors. There’s quite a lot of overlap here because modern vape flavors have much in common with shisha flavor profiles. Fruit-and-ice flavors, for instance, are very common in both worlds. You’ll know the differences if you’ve ever smoked a hookah, though, and you can expect every disposable hookah to have at least one or two offerings intended to serve as direct clones of legendary flavors like Double Apple and Love 66.
Hookah-Style Design Elements

You can usually tell a disposable hookah just by looking at it because e-hookahs often have design elements specifically chosen to make the devices resemble actual hookahs. This is the area where e-hookahs really separate themselves from disposable vapes, and it’s also how brands differentiate themselves and compete with one another. When it comes to unique designs, the sky is really the limit. Here are some of the stylistic elements that today’s disposable hookahs can feature.
- Hookah Mouthpieces: It’s very common for an e-hookah to have the same type of long mouthpiece that a real hookah would have. The mouthpiece adds to the realism because it recreates the mouth feel of a hookah. It also helps to facilitate direct-to-lung inhaling.
- Flat Bases: Many e-hookahs aren’t very portable, which is a subject I’ll discuss in greater detail shortly. They’re meant to be displayed and shared, which means that they often have flat bases. A disposable hookah is typically made to stand up on a table rather than being carried in your pocket.
- Sound Effects: A few disposable hookahs actually have sound effects that mimic the bubbling sound a real hookah makes when the smoke passes through the water. You can usually disable the sound if desired.
- Light Shows: An e-hookah may also have a light show that’s intended to enhance the experience and provide a focal point in social settings. The lights may turn on when you puff on the device, or they may flash in time with the sounds in the environment. This is another feature that you can usually disable if you don’t want it.
- Luxury Accents: Many brands go to great lengths to ensure that their disposable hookahs will look and feel like true luxury products. You can often expect an e-hookah to include special touches like metallic accents or a leather outer wrap.
- Hookah Connectivity: Do you want to go all the way with your smoke-free hookah experience? There are a few e-hookahs that actually have the ability to work as head units on real hookahs. This feature allows you to use your existing hookah base and hoses. Just remove the burner and connect the disposable hookah, and you’re ready to go.
Extremely Large E-Liquid Supplies
One of the defining features of modern e-hookahs is that they often have very, very large e-liquid supplies. I’m talking about 80 ml of vape juice or more and puff counts in the hundreds of thousands. In other words, it’s almost like you’re getting 4-5 standard disposable vapes in a single device – and you can expect to use it for a month or even longer.
There’s an important tradeoff to consider if you’re shopping for a disposable hookah that can last a month because it means that the device almost certainly won’t be suitable for pocket carrying. Some e-hookahs do have e-liquid supplies more comparable to traditional disposable vapes, but even those devices are often a bit larger and bulkier. If you want something that’s comfortable to carry all day, you’ll probably want a traditional disposable vape.
Higher Price Tags
At its core, an e-hookah is basically a longer-lasting and more luxurious version of a traditional disposable vape. However, features like light shows, sound effects and huge e-liquid supplies all cost money to implement. As a result, disposable hookahs usually cost more than disposable vapes. Compared to a standard vape, you can usually expect an e-hookah to cost approximately double. Before you balk at that, though, bear in mind that the e-liquid capacity should more than make up for the price difference. If you’re buying a device that lasts as long as four or five traditional vapes, paying the price of two vapes means that you’re still coming out ahead.
