Starfire Cigs is a new e-cigarette company that seems poised to make a pretty big splash in 2012 and 2013. In an industry filled with products that quickly begin to look a bit repetitive to an observer such as myself, Starfire Cigs has managed to differentiate itself in a few ways that are very customer-centric and should appeal to people trying e-cigarettes for the first time. Starfire Cigs’ prices are also extremely competitive and right in line with what I’d expect to pay. So, is this a good company to go with if you’re buying your first e-cigarette? Find out in my Starfire Cigs review.

About Starfire Cigs

Some e-cigarette companies have a tendency to offer a huge variety of different starter kits in an effort to please as many people as possible. One of the drawbacks of this is confusion. When faced with too many choices, some potential customers may buy nothing at all and simply look for an e-cigarette company with a less confusing product lineup. I think it’s far better to sell only one e-cigarette kit if you’re unable to make it easy for different types of customers to decide which kit is the best for them.

Starfire Cigs has done exactly that, offering just one e-cigarette kit in two different colors: white and black. The Starfire Cigs kit includes two batteries, a portable battery charging case, USB and wall chargers and one pack of five refill cartridges. Extra refill cartridges cost $9.99 per five-pack and ship for free if you decide to have refill cartridges shipped each month automatically.

One of the interesting features of Starfire Cigs is the fact that the refill cartridges use a USA-made nicotine fluid using only vegetable glycerin as a base. Most e-liquids use propylene glycol instead of — or in combination with — vegetable glycerin, but a few people are sensitive or allergic to propylene glycol. It’s not difficult to find e-liquids without propylene glycol, but finding pre-filled e-cigarette cartridges without propylene glycol can be a challenge. If you don’t want to fill your own cartridges and want to use an e-liquid with vegetable glycerin only, Starfire Cigs may be an excellent choice for you.

Although Starfire Cigs is only about a year old, it’s worth noting that they have already taken the steps necessary to receive accreditation from the Better Business Bureau. Many e-cigarette companies that have been around for far longer still aren’t BBB-accredited. Starfire Cigs has a BBB rating of A-. Presumably, part of the reason for this high rating is the company’s liberal policies regarding returns; Starfire Cigs allows you to return your e-cigarette kit for a refund within 30 days if you don’t like it, and all items are covered by a one-year warranty against defects.

Starfire Cigs Review

The Starfire Cigs e-cigarette uses an L88 battery. This e-cigarette model is popular mainly for its small size; when connected to a refill cartridge, it’s the same size as a real cigarette. The other popular e-cigarette companies offering L88 e-cigarettes are Volcano and Blu Cigs. Where Starfire Cigs differs from these companies, however, is the inclusion of a “jewel tip” on its e-cigarette batteries, causing the battery to glow like a crystal when the e-cigarette is used. Although you may not be able to see it since the tip faces away from you, it’s certainly likely to get a bit of attention from your friends. The black Starfire Cigs battery glows blue, while the white battery glows red.

I love the fact that the Starfire Cigs kit includes a portable battery charger at such a low price. While the small size of the L88 battery is a major selling point, the lackluster battery life compared to larger e-cigarettes isn’t. Two fully charged batteries can provide e-smoking time up to that of a full pack of cigarettes, but the battery life is quickly diminished with longer or more frequent e-smoking sessions. The Starfire Cigs portable charging case has its own internal battery with the ability to charge a dead e-cigarette battery several times. So, when one battery dies, you can place it inside the case and charge it while you use the other battery. Even if you can’t get to a USB port or power outlet for a couple of days, you won’t have to worry about being unable to use your e-cigarette.

Whenever possible, I like to recommend e-cigarette companies that sell refill liquids made in the United States. Generally, e-cigarette companies fill their cartridges with liquid made in China. Although the Chinese are the originators of the e-cigarette, I usually find that American-made liquids taste better, produce more vapor and include less chemicals. Starfire Cigs refill cartridges are available in Tobacco, Menthol, Vanilla, Cherry, Coffee, Apple, Watermelon and Peach flavors. A new Turkish Tobacco flavor is also coming soon for lovers of Camel and other Turkish blends. The cartridges taste great, produce plenty of vapor and are priced lower than what many competitors charge.

The Starfire Cigs auto-ship option can also be an excellent way to save money on your e-cigarette refills; other companies have a tendency to nickel-and-dime you on refill costs by charging a couple of dollars for shipping each time you place an order. If you elect to have cartridges shipped automatically, you don’t have to pay shipping fees when you buy e-cigarette cartridges from Starfire Cigs.
